:: RAFTING IN NPEAL

The rivers of Nepal take the traveller to the very heart of a magical land. Rafting is one of the most exciting ways of exploring Nepal's ancient cultures and unspoilt landscapes.  In a country with few roads it is the mighty rivers that link the villages of this exotic Kingdom.

Our guides are trained to international rafting standards and are qualified at basic first aid and survival techniques. Their knowledge of local history, nature and culture provides an expanded dimension to running Nepal's rivers.

Nepal's 1-6 grading system is the same as the international standard, with 1 being the most straightforward. + and – are added to be more specific in Himalayan rivers.

Which river trip?

We cater for everybody, from those that want the full-on adrenaline overload, to those wanting to experience the countryside whilst gently floating down the river; in fact many of our trips can combine the two.

  THE TRISULI RIVER (Grade 3 / 1 to 3 days)

For people with only a limited amount of time the Trisuli offers short 1 to 2 day rafting trips out of Kathmandu. It is even possible to take in the best section of the river in a single day and return to Kathmandu the same evening. The Trisuli River is the most popular river trip and is ideal in combination with trek to Annapurna and  Royal Chitwan National Park.

   THE SETI RIVER (Grade 2-3 / 2 days)

The Seti River rises from the slopes of Machapuchare. This river is very scenic, with no major rapids. It's a beautiful two-day trip all the way to Gaighat. This river is accessible from Kathmandu and Pokhara. Again, it is ideal in combination with trek to Annapurna and  Royal Chitwan National Park.

   THE KALI GANDAKI RIVER (Grade 5 / 3 days)

One of the Nepal's classic river flows through the huge gorges of the Annapurna massif, and includes visits to temples, villages and Ghats. The rapids on this river are some of the most thrilling in the Kingdom.

   THE BHERI RIVER (Grade 3 / 4 days)

This is a remote river in the far west of Nepal. Usually combined with a visit to Royal Bardia National Park.

   THE SUN KOSI RIVER (Grade 4 / 9 or 10 days)

Beginning life near the Tibetan Plateau, this river is fed by the tributaries drained from Mount Everest. The major rapids are huge and similar to those in the Grand Canyon. Along the river are beautiful white sandy beaches, which are ideal for camping. The lower section of the river is covered with thick vegetation, which hide monkeys, leopards and an abundance of bird life.

   KARNALI RIVER (Grade 5 / 8 days)

This is a remote river, which requires two days of trekking just to reach its banks. The whitewater rapids with names like ‘Jailhouse Rock' and ‘Inversion' are difficult and sustained. The river for adrenaline addicts!
